Classics
The Night Before Christmas Pop-up by Robert Sabuda (This is a traditional story with many versions but Robert Sabuda’s is one of my favorites. I think the pop up features are so detailed and amazing!) The Night Before Christmas (Little Golden Book)
Polar Express 30th anniversary edition by Chris Van Allsburg
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Classic Seuss) by Dr. Seuss
The Elf on the Shelf [Book Only] by Chanda A. Bell
Yes, Virginia by Neil Patrick Harris
Animals
The Animals’ Santa by Jan Brett
Turkey Claus by Wendi Silvano
Santa Mouse by Michael Brown
Santa Cows by Cooper Edens
The Dinosaurs’ Night Before Christmas by Anne Muecke with the CD voiced by Al Roker (This story is a twist on the classic tale and takes place at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC.)
Humorous
How Santa Got His Job and How Santa Lost His Job by Stephen Krensky
Santa Claus the World’s Number One Toy Expert by Marla Frazee
Santa’s Twin by Dean Koontz (Best Selling author Dean Koontz delivers another great story. This one will keep you laughing and entertained. Also, don’t forget to search for the hidden snowmen in every picture.)
Auntie Claus deluxe edition by Elise Primavera and the sequel Auntie Claus and the Key to Christmas
How to Catch Santa by Jean Reagan
Santa’s Stuck by Rhonda Gowler Green
Unique
Santa!: A Scanimation Picture Book by Rufus Butler Seder (It is really cool how the pictures on this book move.)
The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allan Ahlberg (Just like in the original version kids will be delighted to read the little notes and postcards that are tucked inside these pages. The Jolly Postman delivers letters to fairy tale characters so it is exciting to see where he stops along the way.)
Santa Assistances
These characters step in when Santa is unable to do the job!
How Murray Saved Christmas by Mike Reiss (writer for the Simpson so you know this one is funny!)
Santa Claustrophobia by Mike Reiss (same author as above)
Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by James Dean (Kids seem to really love Pete the Cat so I had to include him on the list.)
Memoirs of an Elf by Devin Scillian
New Releases
The Not Very Merry Pout-Pout Fish (A Pout-Pout Fish Adventure) by Deborah Diesen is such a cute book! Read my review HERE.
Rudolph Shines Again by Robert L. May is the sequel to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It is just as cute as the original and one of my newest favorites.
Dear Santa, Love, Rachel Rosenstein by Amanda Peet (actress) Rachel Rosenstein loves everything about Christmas but the only dilemma is her family is Jewish and doesn’t celebrate. She decides to write Santa a letter and decorate for the holiday. Many children can relate to this story.

Yay – I was looking for some more good holiday books for kids, and there are some on this list we haven’t tried. Thanks for sharing!
Faye- glad you found some new ones to add to your list. I love revisiting our favorites but it is fun to try out some new ones each year. I love the wide variety of holiday books out there!
I can’t wait to pull out our Christmas books. The Grinch is my favorite. There are several here that are new to me. We need to look for them at the library.
My kids aren’t very little anymore, but you have a lot of great suggestions here. I am going to head to the library and see if I can’t find a few to share with them over the holidays.
What a great list! There are so many that we haven’t read. Can’t wait to read a few new books this year.
